Capitol Lakes and Wisconsin Alumni Association Make History; Sign First-Ever Affiliation Agreement to Serve Seniors
(Madison, Wisconsin) August 12, 2009 – Capitol Lakes®, downtown Madison’s only retirement community (www.retirement.org/madison), announced today that it has formed a partnership with Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. This is the first time that these two parties have joined forces, and it begins a long-term relationship that will serve seniors for generations to come. Together, they will expand their already extensive lifelong learning programs in downtown Madison and provide special benefits to UW alumni age 55 and above.
“WAA has searched for and found an ideal partner in Capitol Lakes,” says Bruce Beckman, Marketing Director for Capitol Lakes. “Our comprehensive community offers the lifestyle and retirement options UW grads deserve in a cultural, downtown location. We look forward to inviting alumni to reexperience Madison and consider it as their retirement destination.”
This affiliation offers a variety of member benefits for eligible alumni, including priority access to residency at Capitol Lakes (age 62+). Alumni will also have access to a unique lifestyle program that only Capitol Lakes offers in Madison—an inclusive service package with a lifetime health care benefit and financial protection. Other benefits will become available as the program progresses.
WAA has given Capitol Lakes its official seal of approval as a Senior Living community. It will also present educational events at Capitol Lakes for residents, alumni, and local seniors, and
provide various opportunities for Capitol Lakes to share information about its community with alumni through WAA communications and outreach. WAA events will be a welcome addition to the already full roster of lifelong learning events occurring on the Capitol Lakes campus. Among these are PLATO discussion groups, meet and greets with local politicians, classes by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), and programs about the arts, health, and more.
This kind of affiliation is part of a larger trend in the U.S., where more and more universities are building relationships with local retirement communities to provide additional benefits to their senior staff and alumni.
“We’re delighted to partner with Capitol Lakes to welcome seniors back to the vibrant downtown area, where they can stay connected with their alma mater,” says Paula Bonner, WAA’s president and CEO. “Capitol Lakes provides the kind of care and community that UW grads expect and deserve, and we look forward to new opportunities to connect with alumni and residents through this partnership.”
